PostHeaderIcon FOOTBALL -- Port Boys' Under-19s Score Nine

Port Glasgow Boys’ Club Under-19s 9 -- St Mirren 2

THE Port started on a high and, after just three minutes, Robert Payne ran down the left wing and crossed the ball into the box for an easy finish by Jamie Curran.

This was quickly followed by a superb cross from Darren Patton which met the head of Ross Boyland whose jump saw the ball hit the back of the net to make it two.

The third goal came from great link-up play by Ross and Jamie to give Jamie his second of the game and, as time went on, the Port played some nice football all over the park.

It was a perfectly picked pass from left back Glenn McDonald that allowed Darren to pull the ball down and slot home for his first of the game. Next it was Glenn's turn to get on the score sheet. Some neat football in the corner of the park between Paul Johnstone and Steven McAfee saw the ball released to the opposite corner of the box where Glenn was on hand with a strong finish to make it five, before a long range strike from PJ on the 35-minute mark ensured he also made his mark on the game. St Mirren however then made a break but a fantastic save by Robbie Graham ensured a clean sheet was still intact at half time.

In the second half St Mirren pulled one back, but the Port carried on and, when Darren went through one-on-one with their keeper, he took it round him and slotted home with his left foot. Some poor defending lead to another Saints goal, but Ross Boyland stole the ball in the middle of the park and beat the St Mirren defence to lay the ball off for Jamie's hat-trick.

With Ross's confidence soaring he went from strength to strength and, as the ball fell to him, he ran a few yards and finished coolly from outside the box.

Referee’s man of the match Ross Boyland, closely followed by Darren Patton.
