PostHeaderIcon GOLF -- Whinhill Enjoy Centenary Success In Muirshiel Trophy

WHINHILL Golf Club were recently crowned champions of the local Muirshiel Trophy league for the 2011 season, a fitting achievement with it also being the club’s centenary year.

The Muirshiel Trophy league is contested by the scratch teams of Gleddoch, Gourock, Port Glasgow and Whinhill Golf Clubs.

Whinhill Golf Club gents' team captain John Donald, fourth from right, with some of the team, receiving the Muirshiel Trophy from Club Captain Dan McAulay

The competition was, as ever, closely-contested with very little separating all four clubs. Whinhill Golf Club posted their total of 3.5 points from 6 matches with the vital half point coming from a 4-4 draw at Gleddoch in Whinhill’s last match of the season. Gleddoch and Gourock shared second place on 3 points with Port Glasgow finishing with 2.5 points, showing how tight the league was with only one point separating first from fourth.

The future is bright for Whinhill Golf Club with seven of the 17-man squad being under the age of 22 and recent products of the club’s Junior Section, a reward for the club’s continuing commitment to the development of junior golf at the club.

Whinhill Golf Club thank gents’ team captain John Donald and his team for their efforts in representing the club in the league and also thank Gleddoch, Gourock and Port Glasgow Golf Clubs for participating in an enjoyable league.
