Beaver Good Turn -- Nine Beaver Colonies took part in collecting items for this year’s Beaver Good Turn. Beaver Leaders had decided that we would collect for Starter Packs, Inverclyde. This is a local organisation which assists homeless people when they are re-housed. June Glancy, co-ordinator of the organisation, was overwhelmed with the amount that had been collected by the Beavers of the District. A big thank-you to all the groups who participated, and to the Beavers, Leaders and parents who turned up on Saturday to hand over the items. Click for bigger photo

33rd Hit The Wall -- A group of adventurous Scouts from the 33rd spent a great evening at the JNI indoor climbing wall in Paisley. The Scouts had spent the previous few weeks practising putting on harnesses and “tying in” on troop night in the hall which was evident on the night as everyone worked together and were ready to climb right away. All the Scouts and accompanying leaders had a fantastic night and rounded it off with a visit to McDonald’s (to replace those burned-off calories!).

New GSL Welcomed
-- The District Commissioner is delighted to announce the five-year appointment of Lesley O'Hagan as Group Scout Leader of the 33rd, who meet on a Monday evening at St Ninian's Church hall, Larkfield. Lesley takes over the management of the group from Kenny Wilson who has decided to retire after having completed 40 years. The District wishes both Lesley and Kenny well for the years ahead.

N-ice One For 70th -- Scouts from the 70th enjoyed a curling taster session at the Waterfront Complex. They learned all about the basics and history of the game, the rules and equipment used then practiced a variety of skills before a couple of games against one another. Everyone involved thanks the Waterfront Junior Curling Club and coaches for their time. The Scouts are looking forward to continuing work towards their Scottish Challenge Badge later in the year.

85th Make Enquiries At Police Headquarters -- A group of Scout from the 85th were given a great treat last week when they visited Greenock Police Station and were given a tour by staff there. They learned about the CCTV and saw one of the police vehicles before being shown to the cells and finding out what it’s like to have their finger prints taken. The Troop thank PC Monaghan, who hosted them for the evening, and all the rest of the staff there who showed the Scouts how everything works.

57th “Pitch Up” At St Andrew’s -- The 57th have “pitched up” at their new home in St Andrew’s Primary, Chester Road, Greenock.

They wasted no time at all in getting the activities underway with a special night learning how to pitch tents inside and what all the parts of the tents are.

New ADC Scouts Welcomed -- District Commissioner David McCallum has welcomed his two new Assistant DCs for Scouts – Jim Arkley and Neil Gregory. Jim and Neil were presented with their certificates to mark their appointments.
