EAST End Houses Earn Security Award
THE entire River Clyde Homes (RCH) housing development in the East End of Greenock has now been commended by Strathclyde Police for achieving the Secured by Design award.
The award applauds developments that incorporate design standards that improve safety and reduce the risk of future crime, such as the layout of the development, its street lighting and by the high standard of locks, doors and windows used in the homes. The East End development was housing association’s first major project to revitalise housing in Inverclyde.
The properties are in Gilmour Street, Arrol Gardens, Telford Gardens, Fairrie Street, Macphail Street, East Crawfurd Street, Border Court, Carwood Street, Sinclair Street, Grosvenor Road and McNab Place.
Detective Constable Joanne Ferguson, architectural liaison officer at Strathclyde Police, said, "I am delighted the entire development has now been recognised for achieving high standards of security. This will undoubtedly help achieve a better quality of life for local residents in terms of preventing crime and making people feel safer."
Stuart Johnstone, development manager at River Clyde Homes, said: “We would like to thank those who helped us - the police, the architects, the local community and our other partners - to create a safe and secure development that caters to residents’ needs and the area as a whole. Safety and security were issues that tenants identified as priorities in the recent Neighbourhood Plan consultation and this award recognises that RCH is working to address these concerns in the area.”
John Garner, for architects Anderson Bell + Christie, said: "We are pleased to have been involved in this project, helping to make the community successful and sustainable."
