NEW Marina Already Looking At Expansion
JAMES Watt Dock Marina in Greenock is already considering expanding its berthing facilities just six months after opening.
Blue Sea Marinas Ltd say they have been extremely encouraged with the level of interest in berthing from boats as small as 6 metres to vessels up to 24 metres.
By December 2011 the 65-berth marina was home to 62 boats for storage, winter and annual berthing.
Craig Latimer, a director of Blue Sea Marinas, said: “In response to the varied demand, we are now looking at developing 20 new 7-metre and 9-metre berths to free up our 11.5-metre pontoons, additional linear berthing for larger yachts and also marketing berthing to superyachts visiting the West of Scotland.
“In respect of the smaller boats up to 9-metres, we are also considering installing petrol so that life is more convenient for RIBs (rigid inflatable boats) and sport boats. In order that we can plan the exact mix of new berthing we are calling for expressions of interest from people considering moving their boats to our marina or planning to move their boats to Scotland.”
The team at James Watt Dock say they can have the new berths installed by April 2012 if sufficient interest is shown in the new proposed facilities.
The harbour has a continuous depth of at least 5.1metres and has finger potoons plus alongsde berthing for larger leisure craft. It can also accommodate larger vessels and superyachts on wall berths.
