A GROUP of local friends and business acquaintances will trek part of the Great Wall of China to raise funds for charity Dreams Come True.

Five people have signed up for the expedition in October and they are looking for others to join them. Those going are Chris Jewell of New Horizons Marketing in Greenock, Paul Veitch of Veitch Financial Consultancy, Greenock, John Keogh of Keogh and Savage in Greenock, Brian Keachie, Music Development Officer with Inverclyde Council and Ruth Keachie who works in management with Tesco

Spokesman for the group and Dreams Come True Inverclyde Co-ordinator Chris Jewell said: “This is an exciting and challenging adventure for us, one which will require a lot of fitness work over the coming months as the Great Wall of China is by no means flat and often at altitude.

“Our good friends at Inverclyde Leisure are helping us out by arranging individual fitness programmes and activities to get us all fit for the trek and we are grateful for their help. We all have to raise a significant sum of money and are planning a number of fund-raising ventures as part of things.

“One is to get to the top of Ben Nevis in the summer as part of our training regime. We are all very passionate about raising funds for Dreams Come True which is a marvellous charity and this trip should raise many thousands of pounds to help provide dreams for children and young people in Scotland aged from two to 21 who are in palliative care or have life limiting diseases.”

The ages of the trekkers currently range from 21 to 65 and there are a number of others considering joining the venture. Chris said: “There is space for many others to come with us and do this trek for Dreams Come True. People outwith Inverclyde and across the UK can also take part and we would love to hear as soon as possible from those interested in joining, and also any who can help fundraise and/or provide sponsorship.”
