DRIVERS Warned Of A8 Roadworks
MOTORISTS face disruption during several days of roadworks on the A8 near Langbank.
A 665-metre stretch of the eastbound side of the road is to be resurfaced from Langbank to junction 31 of the M8 motorway. The £175,000 work starts on Friday and should be completed before rush-hour on Monday.
Recent investigations have shown this section of the road – which carries 24,000 vehicles a day -- needs a new surface because of defects and wear to the carriageway. Contractor Amey will complete the work on behalf of Transport Scotland, with around 1,300 tonnes of new material laid over the course of the weekend.
During the work, traffic will travel in contraflow between Langbank roundabout and junction 31, Westferry. Eastbound traffic will travel in the offside lane of the westbound carriageway.
The M8 junction 31 eastbound off slip to Westferry will be closed so there will be no access for non-motorway vehicles beyond Langbank. Diversions will be in place for non-trunk road traffic.
Colin MacKenzie, operating company representative from Amey, said: “We are carrying out a vital improvement project on the A8 over one weekend. The works have been planned to take place in the shortest period possible to cause minimal disruption but there may be some short term delays.
“We urge drivers to leave extra time for their journeys, especially if they are travelling to Glasgow Airport or into Glasgow itself.”
