GREENOCK’S Central Library will move to its temporary new home in April.

Work is underway to prepare the Business Store in Cathcart Street to accommodate the library until a permanent move to Wallace Place at the end of next year.

Regeneration Convener Councillor Ronnie Ahlfeld, pictured outside the Business Store, said: “Opening hours and the facilities available will remain the same and people will have access to better parking with the free car park next door. The Business Store is a modern building with disabled access and the library, including the children’s area, will all be on the ground floor giving better access than the current building. The library will also have a public toilet which the current one doesn’t have."

The library’s former home in Clyde Square will be refurbished to accommodate Inverclyde’s Community Health and Care Partnership. [More Details]

The Council’s Customer Service Centre currently located in Wallace Place will move to the refurbished ground flood of the Municipal Buildings.

Councillor Ahlfeld added: "This is not about closing a library or reducing the services on offer. This is about making the best possible use of the facilities and assets we have. Inverclyde Council is committed to providing a dedicated, first class and modern library service to all of our communities."
