NAME Agreed For New Lilybank/Glenburn School
EDUCATION councillors agreed the name for the merged Lilybank and Glenburn school.
Lilybank, Port Glasgow, and Glenburn, Greenock, will join in June 2013 as a new school which will be part of the shared campus in Port Glasgow.
Councillors approved the name Craigmarloch which had attracted most votes in a ballot held by the school communities.
Councillor David Wilson said: "Craigmarloch is a particularly significant name. It is the site of a Stone Age fort between Port Glasgow and Kilmacolm. It has great history to it."
A report to Inverclyde Council’s education committee stated that both school communities had been working together and had consulted the wider parent body, staff and pupils over a name for the school.
Craigmarloch got 51 votes. The other suggestions on the ballot were Kingston (46 votes); Alderwood (35 votes); Netherwood (8 votes) and Inchgreen (4 votes).
