JUBILEE Street Party At Church -- ST John's Episcopal Church fund-raising committee are holding a street party to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee on Saturday 2 June from 10am in the church yard. There will be fun stalls as well as home-baking, books, plants and tea, coffee and cakes. Tickets will cost £3 and can be paid at the door.

BOOK Challenge At New Central Library -- INVERCLYDE Libraries are encouraging people to get involved in the Six Book Challenge., as part of the launch of the new Greenock Central Library at The Business Store premises, 75-81 Cathcart Street. The challenge is to read six library books between now and the end of November and anyone doing so will receive a certificate and the chance to win prizes such as an mp3 player. To take part, go into the new Central branch or any other branches and pick up a reading diary and advice on how to complete the challenge. For more details call 01475 712 322.

OPEN Day For Holiday Care Service -- ENTERPRISE Childcare are holding an open day for their holiday care service on Friday 1 June at Grieve Road Community Centre, Greenock from 11am to 4pm. Families are invited to go along and see the range of activities including a climbing wall, soft play area, football pitch and playpark. Holiday care will feature separate rooms for older and younger children and activities daily including arts and crafts, construction, Playstation and board games. When weather and staffing permits there will also be visits to local playparks.

CLASSES At Auchmountain Centre -- AUCHMOUNTAIN Centre in Burnhead Street, Greenock, is running various classes including art for over-55s on Thursdays from 2 to 4pm; mobile texting for over-55s on Thursdays from 1 to 3pm; conversational Spanish from 1 to 3pm on Fridays; and a Learning Bytes class on Fridays from 10am to noon -- this is a class showing how to operate a computer or laptop at the user’s pace. There will also be a food hygiene course on Wednesday 16 May at 10am. For more information call 791818.

HEALING Rooms Evening Sessions -- INVERCLYDE Healing Rooms have started early evening sessions for those who would like prayer for healing of all kinds -- physical, emotional, or needs about family members or colleagues. They are on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month from 6.30 to 7.45 in rooms above The Bank of Scotland at 64-66 West Blackhall Street in Greenock. Entry is around the corner on Laird Street and there is a lift. No appointments are necessary. 'FLOWER Power and The Swinging 60s’ At Gourock Garden Party -- GOUROCK Garden Party takes place at the Walled Garden, Gourock Park, on Father’s Day 17 June from noon until 4pm. This year's theme is 'Flower Power and The Swinging 60s’. Admission is by donation with proceeds going to local charities. There will be live entertainment, charity stalls, tearoom and barbecue plus children's fancy dress pageant and the crowning of Gourock Gala Queen.
