CARDWELL Bay Sailing Club is celebrating after attracting nearly £6,000 Lottery Funding.

The money is being used to improve the clubhouse facilities at Cove Road, Gourock. It is hoped that the newly-refurbished clubhouse will attract other community groups to use the premises and, in addition, the club hopes to attract new members, introducing those not currently involved in sailing activities to become more active in their local community.

The project has commenced and already the clubhouse has benefitted from a number of upgrades which include the installation of double glazing, new kitchen, new flooring and a new central heating system.

The small, friendly sailing club was established in 1906. Club Commodore, Jim McMillan said: “I am delighted that we have received the funding through the Lottery Awards for All funding stream. We are extremely keen to attract new club members and upgrade our current clubhouse facilities to allow other local community groups and new members to be involved in our club.”

The club holds an extensive racing programme including weekly points races and weekend musters to local destinations as well as an active social programme which takes place within and outwith the sailing season. They also run a 200 Club which offers a monthly prize draw and provides much-needed funds to maintain the club premises.
