He received a Silver Award when the 2010 Scottish Sliced Sausage Plus Evaluation awards were handed out at Park Hotel, Kilmarnock this week.
The judges were retired butchers and interested young foodies. With not a drop of brown sauce or an egg in sight, they savoured Scotland’s finest slices.
The evaluation organised by Scottish Craft Butchers (SCB), sought products that deviated away from the traditional lorne sausage to make a square sausage with a difference.
In total Scottish butchers submitted 100 entries for this evaluation. All sorts of complimentary tastes were tried and catching the judges’ eye was Drew McKenzie of Robert Alexander’s Blackheart Slice.
At the awards presentation SCB President Stuart Christie said: “Own recipe meat products are extremely important in attracting customers to our butchers’ shops. Some go miles out of their way to hunt down their favourite savouries. Sliced Sausage is such an iconic Scottish product that customers are interested in any new taste associated with it. I’m sure consumers in Port Glasgow will enjoy these tasty sausages.”
