PHOTOGRAPHY Contest Focuses On Support
INVERCLYDE Council On Disability (ICOD) is urging people to enter the ‘see me’ photography competition.
The contest is in its third year and in 2010 has the theme ‘Support’.
Three local winners will receive a £50 photography voucher and have the opportunity to be entered into the national final.
‘see me’ is Scotland’s national campaign to end stigma and discrimination of mental ill health.
Sally Wright, ABC Tutor for ICOD said: “We had a large response last year from the public and we are looking forward to this year’s competition. The ABC project has had a number of enquiries from local disabled people wanting to develop their skills in digital photography and we hope that the competition will encourage more people to enter and to get out and about and take pictures of their interpretation of this year’s theme ‘Support’.
“The photo competition allows the whole community to get involved, and give people the opportunity to show off their skills and stir ideas in others.”
Three local judges -- Provost Michael McCormick, Greenock Telegraph photographer George Munro and Margaret Fullerton of Inverclyde Mental Health Awareness Planning Group – will choose winners in the over-18 and under-18 categories.
A local exhibition of all entrants’ work will be displayed to allow the public to vote for the other prizewinner.
Margaret Fullerton said: “The competition is a great way of raising awareness around mental health. It’s a great opportunity to become involved and also a great lead up to Mental Health Awareness week at the start of October.
“We want people to get out there with their cameras and share their best shots with us. Take lots of pictures, be honest in your photography and challenge yourself – but most importantly, enjoy it!”
