A ROUND-up of incidents handled from the Clyde Coastguard co-ordination centre in Greenock on Thursday 8 December

8.46am -- Clyde received a report from Strathclyde Fire and Rescue that the work boat Gary Grey with four persons on board had a fire on board the vessel at Sandbank, Dunoon. Dunoon Coastguard Rescue Team, Strathclyde Police, Scottish Ambulance Service and Clyde Sea Recovery were tasked to assist. The crew extinguished the fire which was confirmed by Clyde Sea Recovery. The four crew members were examined by the waiting ambulance crew but no medical attention was required. All units stood down.

9.11am
-- Clyde received a 999 call reporting a person in difficulties on a windsurfer off Ardeer Beach, by Ardrossan. Troon RNLI Lifeboat, Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team and Galloway Sector Manager proceeded. Area thoroughly searched and nothing found. False Alarm Good Intent.

10.13am
-- Clyde received a phone call from the Sector Manager Fort William reporting a fishing vessel aground at Caol, by Fort William. Fort William Coastguard Rescue Team investigated and confirmed no persons onboard and the boat unlikely to refloat.

10.37am -- Clyde received a phone call from Ardrossan Marina reporting the fishing vessel Lady Isle being bashed against the sea wall. Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team and the owner of the vessel proceeded to ensure she was tied securely alongside. The vessel has subsequently almost broken free again. Ongoing

10.55am -- Clyde received a phone call from Strathclyde Police reporting a car on Newton Beach by Ayr, half filled with water and one person inside. Ayr Coastguard Rescue Team proceeded and was met on scene by Strathclyde Fire and Rescue. No persons were onboard and incident considered False Alarm Good Intent.

11.03am -- Clyde received a phone call from a member of the Appin Coastguard Rescue Team reporting a yacht broken from its moorings at Loch Creran. The yacht went ashore on the north side of Loch Creran, there were no persons onboard.

11.27am
-- Clyde received a 999 call from a member of the public reporting a vessel in difficulty off the waterfront at Greenock. After investigation it was found to be a boat at anchor and in no difficulty.

11.32am -- Clyde received a call from Fort William Sector Manager reporting a missing female at Ardnamurchan Lighthouse. She had gone for a walk but had not returned. Before the units were dispatched the woman was found safe and well.

11.47am -- Clyde received a call from Loch Lomond Rangers reporting that they were going to try and assist a boat which was dragging its mooring. Unfortunately the weather was too rough to move the vessel.

3.48pm -- Fort William Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to assist the other emergency services in Fort William in dealing with the effects of adverse weather.

4.19pm -- Clyde received a report from Port Ellen Coastguard Rescue Team of an ex-lifeboat which was at anchor with no-one on board off Islay, in danger of dragging its anchor but because of the weather conditions; no assistance could be given.

4.46pm -- Clyde received a call from Strathclyde Police reporting an overdue vessel with three persons onboard at Barcaldine, Loch Creran. Radio communications were made with the vessel on VHF channel 16. The yacht Sapphire had broken down and had managed to put an anchor out but were not sure how long it would hold. Oban RNLI all weather lifeboat and Appin Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked. Oban lifeboat arrived on scene and towed the vessel back to the Marine resource centre in Loch Creran.

5.16pm -- Clyde received a phone call from the manager of Oban Marina reporting that five members of staff were stranded on the Island of Kererra and were requesting assistance to get off the island. Oban RNLI Lifeboat was asked to assist.

5.44pm -- Clyde received a report from a member of the public of two yachts broken free and drifting from their moorings at Connel, north of Oban. As no one was on board the yachts, and because of the adverse weather conditions, the situation was monitored. The yachts were last reported still drifting.

6.09pm -- Clyde received a phone call from a member of Craignure Coastguard Rescue Team reporting a trimaran broken free from its mooring in Loch Don, Isle of Mull. Craignure Coastguard Rescue Team proceeded and spoke to the owner who was happy the vessel could be taken care of at a later date.

8.40pm
-- Clyde tasked Cumbrae Coastguard Rescue Team to prepare an emergency helicopter landing site on the island of Cumbrae to facilitate the transfer of an patient by Rescue Helicopter 177 to the Golden Jubilee Hospital, Clydebank.

9.22pm -- Clyde received a call from a member of the public reporting a boat broken free of its mooring and drifting up Loch Etive with no persons onboard. The boat was last reported still drifting.

During the same period the Coastguard centre at Belfast – which is to take over the Clyde area under a controversial UK Government plan -- dealt with the following incidents:

8.10am -- 999 call from member of the public reporting multiple orange flares in the vicinity of Kesh, County, Fermanagh. Investigations into flare activity made with police. Flare description not consistent with distress flares; no other reports received.

6.11pm -- Call received from Fire Control reporting the fishing vessel Alisa on fire in Ardglass Harbour. Southdown Coastguard Rescue Team tasked. Fire service extinguished the fire which was in the accommodation area of the vessel. Coastguard team provided assistance and communications.
